Sima Thakkar is a Senior Investment Associate in Specialty Finance at the Raza Development Fund, a national Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) focused on increasing access to capital for Latino and underserved communities of color and removing barriers still faced today in financing educational facilities, healthcare services, and community centers. She helps lead development efforts under the New Market Tax Credit (NMTC) Program and promotes investments in affordable housing projects across the country.
Sima has over 15+ of experience in community development, federal grants management, and philanthropy, including with PetSmart Charities, City of San Diego, and Metro Nashville, working on programs focused on affordable housing, economic development, and homelessness programs. She was also selected by the Council of Development Finance Agencies (CDFA) to the 2021 class of the Caren S. Franzini Fellowship, created to recognize and engage women leaders in the field of development finance.
She is an Urban Planner with a Master of Regional Planning degree from Cornell University and B.A. in Urban Planning and Public Administration from Miami University. Sima also serves as Vice Chair for the Board of Directors of one•n•ten, an LGBTQ+ youth organization, and as Secretary for the Board of Directors of Trellis, a nonprofit CDFI dedicated to affordable housing in Phoenix.
